Review of 'Dhoom3': Aamir 'steals' the show

Genre:
Action-Thriller-drama

Plot: All 'Dhoom' movies only have one plot: robbing(but this time, the protagonist sprinkles the notes, instead of taking the money with him).

The protagonist's father, the magician, commits suicide unable to pay a bank loan. The protagonist after growing up avenges the bank and starts robbing and as usual, the duo, 'Jai' and 'Ali' are asked for help by the Chicago police.

The Director's Angle:
The director made an effort to thrill the audience through innovative stunts and 'drama'.

Strong Point:
'Aamir' is definitely the strength of the movie as well the drama in the second half of the movie.

Logic:
  • There seems to be no CCTVs in Chicago to get any glimpse of Aamir during the first robbery, and they may have got it right after Jai's arrival.
  • The Chicago police seems to have forgot to shoot a fugitive or may be only 'Jai' has the permission to shoot, that too only one bullet while hanging on a ladder from a chopper.

Music:
The background score creates the impact that the story demands, songs were okay.

'Critic'al View:
The story starts with a depressive magic/circus show. And then the usual introductions, one for the robber and the other for the cop pair, which are filled with some exaggerated(you can read it innovative too) stunts.

'Jai' and 'Ali' fails to grab the protagonist on their first chase, which involves some more bike feats. The first half ends on a high note with the twist of the movie, which reveals the real thief(hope your over-enthusiastic friends, who saw the movie, didn't reveal it).

The second half moves around the drama that the interval twist unveils. The protagonist prepares to take down the bank with a final job, while 'Jai' prepares a trap for him. Some more innovation in the stunts as the movie reaches the climax.

The dances were partly a let down, as one can expect after the duo of Hrithik&Ash. But the thematic elements makes up for it.

Quotes:
  • Just before the climx, 'Jai' says on a walkie-talkie, "I need some choppers, a SWAT team and sunrise".
Bloopers:
  • We never get to see how the main lead gets inside the bank and robs it in the entire movie.
Rating: 3/5
(5 - Excellent, 4 - Very Good, 3 - good2 - average1 - poor0 - Repulsive)

Even though there are a number of negatives, Aamir makes up for most of them with his 'One-Men-Show'.

Who can watch:
People who like some bike stunts and/or 'Aamir'.

Movies with similar Storyline(partly/completely):

  2. Watched it day before yesterday. I should say I am tad surprised with your rating. I would give it 2/5. It looks like the director got the idea for this story when he was watching "Prestige" on a lazy day. Many who watched "Prestige" would have guessed the "twist" as we call it, before the interval. As this seed of idea, which is not original, is the central point(for the story), the creation of the remaining part of it also didn't look natural(enforced) and some times not original(Especially the scene where amir(the one who did the crime) goes n tell Abhishek, the police, that his colleague, whose face has not seen by anybody did the robbery. It reminded me of Usual suspects, where kevin spacey goes to the police and tells about a devil called Kyzhar (who is himself) did the crime ). The stunts are so overboard that I got laugh watching them, forget about excitement. Though they shot the first bike chase well, but ends with a stupid rope walk with bike, as if he is going to another planet with that rope so that police who were in awe him doing that can't continue the chase or shoot him down.

And Abhishek Introduction, hilarious. Why the hell he comes through a wall breaking it by an auto, as if they held uday chopra in a closed room(so that there is no other way except breaking the walls) when they are holding him on a public road open.
Amir did splendidly in Sahil role. His intense looks perfectly fitted the role. But for samir role(Kamzori waala) it looked kind of funny to me, as he was trying to do something out of nothing.

Songs are like u said ok and missed the fire of Dhoom 2. Amir's Dance is certainly a draw back.

Overall, not a movie that I can watch again.

    1. hmmm. I did like both characters, that may be the diff and I did enjoy some stunts. I went to the movie alone on first day itself, so that i can write the review without any other's influence. Somehow, I felt good after watching the movie and that reflected in my rating...
